Hostmanship goes a little further than protocolised service. Hostmanship is about giving. It is a way of life. Gunnarsson says about it in his book 'Hostmanship': "One of the big differences between hostmanship and friendly service orientation is the feeling that stays with you when the guest has long since left. Service assumes the recipient: as long as the guest is satisfied, you have done your job well. Hostmanship, on the other hand, focuses on the provider. Hostmanship is inside you. You carry it with you and it contributes to your personal development".
