The game
In the escaperoom, players are given a number of tasks. Central to this is the question of help. Interactively, they are in direct contact with other young people outside the caravan and with social workers present. The assignments are designed so that asking for help in time leads to a faster escape from debt. At the same time, the player experiences the stress and pressure that the 'time' factor entails to solve a debt problem.
Always a way out
After the game, an expert by experience takes the youngsters through the events of the game and what choices were made in the process. The consequences of those choices are highlighted. The expert by experience makes it clear that timely raising the alarm is extremely important. After all, there is always a way out of debt.
No threshold
Because as an organisation we are closely involved in the development of the escaperoom and actively participate in its further development, in addition to raising awareness of debt problems and timely requests for help to debt relief workers, we also try to lower the threshold to the bailiff. After all, the bailiff can play an important role in timely identification of debt problems. Through the information the bailiff gathers during home visits, he can help think about solutions to the problems. Is a payment arrangement possible? Or does someone simply not have the money to pay the debts and is a referral to debt assistance more appropriate? This can prevent the further accumulation of problematic debts. It is therefore important that there is no barrier to talking to the debt relief worker and the bailiff.
Limburg, Brabant and the Netherlands
The project has been launched in the province of Limburg. We are currently working hard to also have a mobile escaperoom 'on the road' in Brabant before the summer of 2022. We are looking for parties willing to support and co-develop this initiative for the rest of the Netherlands.
